Education Task Force Workshop

The Lakewood Chamber of Commerce Education Task Force hosted a community forum titled “What Bikeability Means for Your Business” on March 29th at the Beck Center for the Arts.

Over 40 interested residents and members of the business community learned more about Lakewood’s Bike Master Plan and what role businesses could have in making Lakewood one of the most bicycle-friendly communities in the country by 2015.

Officials from the City of Lakewood outlined the Bike Master Plan and how it would benefit “Lakewood’s Brand”. Representatives from several Lakewood bicycling-related organizations talked about upcoming events (Bike for Beck, Lakewood Criterium, Bike Lakewood group rides, Cleveland Bike Month, etc.) with an emphasis on how local businesses can get involved. Attendees listened to several case studies of Lakewood businesses that have already realized the benefits of aligning themselves with—and marketing to— the bicycling community. The internal business benefits of promoting bicycling among employees (health/wellness, community engagement, etc.) were discussed as well.

The implementation of Lakewood’s Bike Master Plan and the growing number of bicycling-related community events will provide unique opportunities for Lakewood businesses to capitalize on Lakewood’s burgeoning reputation for bike friendliness.
